If you are celebrating, it’s wonderful to have friends and family over for a party. However, the next morning, there’s the clean-up operation, including an unpleasant fragrance, at times. In a recent survey, 73% of people said that the smell of your home gives others a message about you. It can even have an impact upon your mood. What’s more: 64% said that the smell of their home is really important to them. So, how do you give your house a fresh scent after a party?

Open the windows

After you’ve had a party, the air is filled with a cacophony of scents – from alcohol fumes and cigarette smoke to a blend of your guest’s perfumes. It is tempting to mask those scents by lighting scented candles or incense sticks. In reality, you are simply adding to the combination of unpleasant smells in your home. Your themed party was fabulous, but you don’t want the smell to linger for days afterwards, even after the clean-up! The easiest and quickest way to rectify this is to open your windows and let the air circulate. Though it may be impractical in the winter, you will have fresh, clean air in a couple of hours. Newer homes have heat recovery ventilators that bring in fresh outside air to replace stale indoor air.

Get your carpets cleaned

When having a party, guests may take their shoes off but their feet will still track in some material from the entrance area. This means that they are bringing in dirt from outside that can get trapped in the fibres of your carpet. Some of this can be vacuumed out, but small and sticky particles are difficult to get. The dirt will also leave an unpleasant residual smell. Getting your carpets professionally cleaned will ensure that your home has a lovely, fresh scent. It will also make your floor not only look clean, but be completely hygienic.

Use natural scented oils

Natural scented oils can be used in a burner, or a few drops put on a tile and placed on a heating vent. These help to give your home a beautifully, fresh scent that won’t be overwhelming. Pick clean fragrances, such as lemon or lime that help to improve your mood, as well as the ambiance in your home. After a party, it is important to improve the air quality and smell in your home. After the clean-up, you can start planning for your next celebration.
