It’s hard enough to reach our healthy eating and exercise goals when we are at home in our daily routine, but trying to figure out how to stay healthy while you travel can be nearly impossible.  Now of course, for most people, when vacationing, it’s not the time to eat the strictest diet and adhere to the most rigorous workout routine.  After all, vacations are a time of rejuvenation and relaxation, so you can come back to the routine of life rested and ready to go at it full force.

But, on the other end of the spectrum, no one wants to come back from vacation 10 pounds heavier, and have to dive into a daunting diet and exercise program to undo the damage.  So where can we strike a balance?

According to most experts, the secret lies in moderation.  In fact, when looking at the habits of naturally healthy people it is often recognized that they practice moderation whether or not they are aware of it.  That does not mean denying oneself the finer things, but enjoying them mindfully and in moderate amounts.

The same principle applies to exercise. Keeping active, especially while traveling is usually fun.  Often trips include hikes, walking tours or other activities such as bicycle riding that naturally incorporate movement and exercise into a vacation.  If you don’t have built-in exercise, then take the time to squeeze in a morning walk or some stretching and toning.  With the Internet, you are never more than a click away from a quick work out routine.

Whatever your pleasure, may it be filled with a good healthful time.
